A Master of Clinical Research degree can help a nurse move into a more academic line of work that involves less work with patients and more with test subjects. This degree is a good way to gain expertise in a medical niche, which is crucial if you want to become a research team leader or an educator. Clinical research is conducted in a broad spectrum of medical fields and facilities. Pharmaceutical companies need clinical testers to assess their medicines, and all sorts of companies need clinical testers to check the safety of food products, cosmetics, and other consumer goods. Having a master’s degree in clinical research can be a stepping stone to a career in diverse research environments.
My Earning Potential
The Bureau of Labor Statistics does not publish salary data specific to clinical researchers, but does publish figures for “Medical Scientists,” a broad category encompassing several types of medical researcher. The mean annual salary for medical scientists as of May, 2011, was $87,640. This is about twice the national per capita income, making it an extremely good salary compared to other occupations.
